Stacy Harwood named Associate Dean for Faculty

Stacy Harwood

The Department of City and Metropolitan Planning announces Professor Stacy Harwood as Associate Dean for Faculty in the College of Architecture and Planning

Professor Harwood brings a strong commitment to faculty and research excellence, shaped by her extensive experience at the University of Utah, where she has served as Chair of the Department of City and Metropolitan Planning from 2018 to 2024. In her new role as Associate Dean for Faculty, she will provide strategic leadership to support faculty development and research across the College. She will lead initiatives related to mentoring, research advancement, and grant support, and will represent the College in campus and community efforts where faculty and research play a central role.

An experienced scholar and educator, Professor Harwood’s interdisciplinary research bridges urban planning, immigration, and racial justice. Her recent work explores how planning practices can support immigrant communities, the impacts of gentrification, and the institutional experiences of students and faculty of color in higher education. Her approach combines rigorous research, community-based methods, and a focus on fostering belonging in both institutional and community contexts.

The addition of this new Associate Dean position to the College’s leadership team reflects the College’s continued investment in faculty development and research support. As the College continues to grow, most notably with the creation of the Division of Games and the planned expansion of academic programs, this role will help ensure that faculty have the resources and guidance needed to thrive as educators and researchers. It also promotes the College’s commitment to fostering an academic environment where innovation in teaching and learning can flourish.
