The College of Architecture and Planning is pleased to announce the reappointment of Associate Professor Timothy Adekunle as Chair of the School of Architecture.

Professor Adekunle has served as the Interim Chair of the School of Architecture since August 2023. Over the past two years, he has focused on enhancing the School’s academic programs, improving student experiences, and strengthening its institutional foundation.
Under his leadership, significant achievements include the expansion of programs in preparation for the upcoming NAAB accreditation review, the establishment of an inaugural membership in the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society, and the launch of a new Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies (BAAS)—the first major revision of the School’s undergraduate offerings in over thirty years. These accomplishments display his tremendous impact in leading the School towards academic excellence.

With strong support from the faculty, the School has also developed proposals for new study abroad and travel studio opportunities that will expose undergraduate students to broader, hands-on projects that create a unique learning experience for students. DesignBuildUtah@Bluff and DeisignBuildUtah@SLC, major programs that attract students looking for community-serving initiatives, have also experienced growth that has benefited student learning. These efforts reflect Professor Adekunle’s vision for enhancing collaborative work and diverse learning within a student’s academic journey.

In addition to his administrative duties, Professor Adekunle has continued to empower students in his courses and publish research focused on sustainable architecture, building performance, and environmental resilience. His impressive productivity and collaborative efforts with fellow faculty and staff highlight the School’s dedication to excellence and progress.

Looking ahead, the College is eager to continue its support for the School’s initiatives under Professor Adekunle’s leadership, with an emphasis on industry research, expanding accessibility, and maintaining a high standard of academic excellence in the years ahead.
