College of Architecture + Planning Convocation

Friday, May 1, 2020 at noon

Convocation for the College of Architecture + Planning will be Friday, May 1, 2020 at noon at the Olpin Union Ballroom. The CA+P Convocation, in the College’s tradition, is a time for graduates and their families to celebration and recognize the accomplishments of all involved.

The convocation lasts approximately 90 minutes. The main features of the convocation are student speakers selected by their class and recognition of special student achievements as well as the announcement of special awards. The primary event, of course, is the individual recognition of each graduate.

Line-up of Graduates

All graduates should have a cap and gown (and hood for graduate students) to participate in the convocation. These may be ordered at the University Bookstore.  Graduates should gather in the Olpin Union Saltair Room (west of the Ballroom) no later than 11:30 AM. Graduates will be given cards on which to write their names (no nicknames) as they will be read at commencement and non-university email addresses. Please provide the best pronunciation of your name so our announcers can accurately say your name. Each graduate will need to hold on to their card until crossing the stage. The procession will form in the Saltair Room by major and degree and proceed into the Ballroom at noon.

Guest Seating

There is unlimited seating; no tickets are required. The convocation procession will begin promptly at noon Families and guest should be seated prior to that time. Special seating arrangements for guests in wheelchairs or those having difficulty walking are available in the Ballroom in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Special Seating and Accommodations

Students or guests with disabilities (including individuals in wheelchairs and those who have limited mobility) attending the College of Architecture + Planning reception directly after the College convocation can request accommodations by contacting Jennifer Browning at the college at (801) 581-8254 or The College requests that guests give reasonable prior notice and, since space is limited, plan to arrive early.

Campus parking lots may be used at no charge during convocation and commencement ceremonies. Families are encouraged to drop off those who cannot walk long distances at the east entrance of the Union Building before parking. The closest parking to the Union Building is the parking lot directly east of the building. Guests may also park in other lots and catch a University shuttle to the Union Building. Since parking can be difficult during this busy time on campus, we also encourage families to ride UTA TRAX and to take buses to graduation. Access UTA route maps and schedules here. Please note that the parking lot at the Stadium will be closed due to a special event.

Cap and Gown Orders

Student graduates can pay for and pick up graduation regalia at the University Campus Store’s Grad Fair March 26th. If you missed the Grad Fair and still need to pick up your regalia, you can do so from April 28th – April 29th. Please keep in mind that this option is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, please visit the Campus Store’s website. If you need to order your regalia, please do so here.
