September 2020 Dean’s Letter:

Dear CA+P Family,

On August 24, 2020 we were able to welcome you back for the Fall 2020 semester.  It is great to have you here.  To stay up-to-date on the latest regarding the impact of the global pandemic of COVID-19 on the College, please frequently visit this website, our facilities page, and the University’s main coronavirus page.  Please be as vigilant regarding COVID-19 protocols (wash your hands, wear your mask, watch your distance) during your Labor Day break as you are on campus.  This will give us all the best chance to extend this learning experiment through to our first mandated online period which begins September 28.  We are all in this together and we had a good first week, but we need to continue to respect the health needs of those among us.

August 2020 Dean’s Letter:

Dear CA+P Family,

On July 24, 2020 the University of Utah formally announced the latest changes to the Fall 2020 Academic plans.  Items to note are: 1) masks will be required in all classes; and 2) ALL classes will now be online for a two week interim period from September 28 through October 9 as well as ALL instruction after Thanksgiving will be online.  Please note that these steps are being taken as an act of health justice in regard to this pandemic, knowing that our healthcare system has a given capacity and we want to do our part to insure that those at greatest risk receive those services.  Both masks and times of quasi-quarantine should help control transmission of this novel virus.

In response to COVID-19, the College of Architecture + Planning, with significant thanks to our 2m ad hoc group constituted of students, faculty and staff, has developed facility guidelines for how Building 37 will operate during the Fall semester.  Please review these facility guidelines prior to attending any classes in the ARCH building.

We cannot wait to welcome you back and know that we will continue to provide you the best learning experience and workplace environment that we are able.

June 2020 Dean’s Letter:

Dear CA+P Family,

On June 1, 2020 the University of Utah formally announced that it intends to return to campus this fall, with the first day of classes set for August 24.  We cannot wait to welcome you back!

To keep the information consistent, our College encourages you to check the University’s website “Return to Campus” frequently as it will get updated as decisions are made.  The University is following stage guidelines that state face coverings (e.g. mask, scarf, gaiter, bandana) should be worn in public settings when physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Face coverings must cover both the nose and the mouth. Please note that these steps are being taken as an act of health justice in regard to this pandemic, knowing that our healthcare system has a given capacity and we want to do our part to insure that those at greatest risk receive those services.

We cannot wait to welcome you back and know that we will continue to provide you the best learning experience and workplace environment that we are able.

Original March 2020 Dean’s Letter:

As you heard on March 12th, the University of Utah is responding as a community leader to the public health threat presented by the Coronavirus in taking the following actions:

  •          CLASSES ARE CANCELLED on Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th
  •          ALL CLASSES WILL GO ONLINE AS OF WEDNESDAY, March 18th (delayed due to 5.7 earthquake and after shocks)
  •          STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY OFF-CAMPUS ARE ASKED TO REMAIN OFF CAMPUS for the remainder of the semester (e.g. STAY AT HOME and do not travel back if you are out of state)
  •          RESTRICT ALL INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC TRAVEL
  •          UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT AND COLLEGE CONVOCATION ARE POSTPONED

Please note that these steps are being taken as an act of health justice in regard to this pandemic, knowing that our healthcare system has a given capacity and we want to do our part to insure that those at greatest risk receive those services. Hopefully, we can societally change the arc from a tsunami of infection to a subtle wave.
